Question by tou2yaj: How do you plug cable internet into your computer without using a router?

I am having issues with my internet not working properly. I want to try to plug my cable internet into my computer or laptop, without using my router to see if it is an internet connection problem or a router problem; because I do not want to buy another router. Since they are so expensive. Please advise.

You can plug your cable or DSL modem directly into your computer's ethernet port. Power your modem off. Wait for like 5 minutes and power it back on. Reboot your PC.

However, a router buys you a certain degree of protection and keeps you safe from a number of attacks. Well worth the money if you ask me.
