How to take Cartooning as a profession through Internet?

I want to switch from my software engineer career to full-time cartooning. I draw good cartoons (in science, politics, computer, environment)and got some of them published also. Please suggest me how to sell my cartoons worldwide as I reside in India(scopes are limited here). Will I earn decently so that i can give up my current job? Cartooning is my childhood hobby. Please help me with your valuable suggestions.

here is one idea...
you know how this guys tray parker and matt stone started?
they made an animated cartoon Christmas postcard and send it to a few friends over the internet.. as it turned out people loved it and it got to some important people that offered them to make a pilot episode... and now south park ( the cartoon ) is huge...
but also you can try making a home web page that would be really great and will have a lots of fun stuff so people would wanna visit... and there on that page you can sell your cartoons...
but I'm not quite sure what sort of cartoons do you wanna make animated or comics or just pictures of characters...
