Of The Outdoors: On Ice, Bigger Isn’t Always Better

My Genz Worm jig had just came to rest about a foot above the bottom when my Vexilar locator indicated a red blip (fish) was moving up from the bottom towards my jig, which was tipped with a wax worm. I twitched it once and “BAM,” the fish was on and after a short battle, a chunky 11-inch Crappie became the first fish of this trip to hit on the ice.
